Trans Voices Forward: A New Chapter in Gender‑Affirming Vocal Education

2 min read

Rainbow Harmony Project is excited to launch Trans Voices Forward, a new initiative dedicated to uplifting, supporting, and celebrating trans and gender‑diverse singers across Manitoba. This project has been in development for over a year, shaped by community conversations, singer feedback, and a growing need for accessible, gender‑affirming vocal education in our province. Today, we’re thrilled to share it with you.

Why Trans Voices Forward?

For many trans and gender‑expansive singers, traditional vocal spaces haven’t always felt welcoming or accessible. Voice transition, vocal exploration, and identity‑centred artistry deserve thoughtful, informed support, and Trans Voices Forward aims to create exactly that. Through workshops, learning spaces, individual coaching, and community events, this project offers singers and educators a chance to learn in environments rooted in care, curiosity, and affirmation.

Two Artist Residencies, One Shared Mission

Trans Voices Forward will unfold through two artist residencies this season, each led by acclaimed vocal and choral specialists who bring deep expertise and lived experience to their work.

November Residency with Dr. Cee Adamson

Dr. Cee Adamson (she/they) joins RHP for a week of workshops, one‑on‑one lessons, and ensemble coaching. Community singers, teachers, and curious learners will have multiple opportunities to engage with gender‑affirming vocal technique and explore new approaches to voice. Cee will also work directly with RHP on repertoire and ensemble sound, offering a behind‑the‑scenes look at gender‑affirming choral practice.

More details about the TVF November Residency.

March Residency with Dr. Ari Agha

In March, we welcome Dr. Ari Agha  (they/them) for a residency, featuring workshops, individual coaching, expanded outreach beyond Winnipeg, and a public performance of Key of T, Ari’s powerful multimedia work exploring gender transition and voice. This residency will offer rich learning opportunities for singers, educators, and community members across Manitoba.

Who Is This For?

Trans Voices Forward is designed for:

  • trans and gender‑expansive singers

  • community singers of any age, background, or experience

  • teachers, conductors, and music educators

  • allies and learners interested in gender‑affirming voice work

  • anyone curious about how voice, identity, and artistry intersect

Whether you’re stepping into vocal exploration for the first time or deepening your professional practice, there’s a place for you here.
